Michael Franti, ex-Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, and his latest band, Spearhead, are, surely, the modern-day successors to Gil Scott Heron in their uncompromising political, and pacifist, stance against the US establishment

I had the great pleasure of seeing the band play at Glasgow Uni a couple of years back, and was mightily impressed at the quality of his songwriting, which covers rock’n roll, rap, hip-hop, accoustic ballads, love songs, stories, protest songs, and all sortsa inspirational stuff.

Michael’s film, “I Know I’m Not Alone”, details his visit to the streets of Iraq, where he busked with an accoustic guitar to anyone who would listen … be they soldiers,  insurgents, kids, or whatever.  The resulting film, and the music he produces, are awesome!!
